From Birthdays to Christenings, Engagement Parties and even Wedding Receptions our experienced team will be on hand to ensure you have a sensational event. We can cater for up to 150 for a sit down meal or up to 250 stand up canape event, incorporating both our Upstairs Function space and Rooftop.
There are smaller and more intimate spaces to our larger party spaces, suiting both Day and Night time functions. Our menus can be tailored specifically for any event and we cater for most dietary requirements.
Our convenient location has a private car park & public parking across at Dan Murphys as well as street parking. We are on tram 59 (Airport West) and a 5 minute walk to the Ascot Vale train station and only 8 minutes by taxi to the CBD.

Upstairs at The Laurel is an exclusive and unique open plan area perfect for stand up cocktail style functions. 21st’s, Engagements, 50th, 60th, Christenings – any function worth celebrating also perfect for smaller sit down private dinners or seminars. The area boasts a fully equipped bar, Rooftop Balcony, leather couches, high tables and stools, water features, Screens for slide shows or coporate branding, stage for DJ or small band, Bose sound system which iPod or DJ can plug into and male and female toilets. Our new elegant lounge bar is perfect for exclusive cocktail style functions. The space includes its own private bar, lots of seating and sound system with iPod connectivity. Enjoy something from our new tapas menu or try one of our delicious cocktails.
The Laurel Rooftop can be hired exclusively, sectioned off areas or just book some tables for your next funtion. Fully equipped outside bar with tap beer & cider, TV for slide show or fox sports, toilets, ipod connectivity, ample heating and a huge retractable roof – perfect for Melbourne’s various weather conditions! Small bands and DJ’s also welcome.
This space can also be hired alongside the Upstairs Function Room for larger cocktail functions.
This semi-private area situated on the left hand side of the rooftop. Suitable for functions up to 30 people, sit down and stand up. Furniture can be changed or removed or added to suit function style.
The Atrium is a drop down private area at the back of Bistro 289. Perfect for that sit down function or cocktail style with the tables moved. A private dining area that sits up to 24 people comfortably and when added with the back part of the bistro can seat up to 45 people. ‘Perfect for that family or work get together and very popular for Christening’s. Depending on amount of guests you can choose from a set menu, order from the bistro menu or provide a limited menu to your guests.
Classy, comfortable and Cosy this area seats up to 150 with a large middle bar and an outside courtyard. The bistro can be hired exclusively or part of for Weddings, Birthdays, Christenings, Trivia nights, Presentation Evenings, Social Club dinners etc. Set Menu’s for various budgets available. Platters on arrival, alternating and pre orders.
